Serves 4

  • Suitable for freezing
  • Can be made in advance

Nutritional Information per Serving

  • 400 Kcals
  • 12.1g Net Carbohydrates
  • 19.4g Fat
  • 37.8g Protein

Serving Suggestion

We suggest you serve this with a mixture of steamed green vegetables or salads. For example, a medium sized serving of broccoli, green cabbage, and green beans with homemade gravy gives you a total serving of 499 kcals, 24.2g of carbohydrates, 21.6g fat and 46g of protein.

Ingredients

  • Dash of olive oil
  • 1 onion finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic crushed
  • 1 stick of celery finely diced
  • 500g lean beef mince
  • 150ml beef or bone stock
  • 150ml red wine
  • 1 rich beef gel stock pot
  • 1 tbsp tomato puree
  • 1 tbsp Worchester sauce
  • 1 tsp marjoram
  • ½ tsp thyme

Topping

  • 1 large cauliflower
  • 100g extra mature cheddar
  • 15g of butter
  • Seasoning to taste

Method

1. Place your cauliflower florets into your steamer and steam until soft.

2. Whilst the cauliflower is steaming, place your sauté pan on medium heat and add the oil, before adding the onion, cloves, celery, and carrots. Cook for 5 minutes to soften.

3. Add the mince and cook until browned before adding the remaining base ingredients.

4. Bring up to a simmer and cook for another 5 minutes.

5. Mash the cauliflower with butter and cheese. Add black pepper and salt to taste. We love to add lots of black pepper to our mash.

6. Place the base into your ovenproof dish. Add the cauliflower top and press down firmly.

7. When ready to cook, preheat the oven to 180c/160c fan/Gas 4

8. Place the dish onto a baking tray (this catches any possible overspill) and bake for 20 minutes until golden. If you are in a hurry, you could simply place the cottage pie under the grill to brown the top as long as everything is still hot when assembling.

9. Serve with steamed green vegetables
